About

lymphedema therapist, certified cosmetic surgery therapist, Occupational Therapist NYC

Megan McCarthy, MS OTR/L CLT CCST

I have been a practitioner since October 2014 and spent the majority of my career as a staff member and lead Senior Occupational Therapist at New York Presbyterian Hospital (NYP) .

I have experience in and provided rehabilitation services for the following conditions:

  • Breast Rehabilitation

  • Lymphedema therapy (CLT)

  • Plastic surgery

  • Oncology

  • Orthopedics

  • Surgical trauma

  • Outpatient hand therapy

  • Burn rehabilitation (adults and pediatrics)

  • Neurology/Neurosurgery/Neurology intensive care

  • Stroke rehabilitation

  • General medicine

  • Medical intensive care

  • Cardiology/cardiac intensive care, patients with Ventricular Assistive Devices (VADs), intra aortic balloon pumps (IABPs) and, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

  • Inpatient Rehabilitation

  • COVID intensive care unit and recovery

My goal as a clinician was to become a well rounded therapist. If anyone walked through my door, I wanted to be able to treat them. After mastering a multitude of practice areas, including becoming Lymphedema certified, I decided I wanted to designate myself as a specialist and start a private practice. Breast Rehabilitation has become a passion of mine. It is an area of therapy that requires a variety of skillsets and one where you can help individuals get results quickly or even alleviate pain after one-two sessions. It is very humbling to be able to provide a service that can not only impact one’s wellbeing but helps clients to find a healthy connection with their body. This is how BreastHab became my next endeavor.

Over the years, I have become heavily involved in breast rehabilitation. I was a part of collaborative effort to create a research driven post-operative breast rehabilitation protocol that is still in use today. Most recently, became certified as a Cosmetic Surgery Therapist (CCST) and in the Strength After Breast Cancer program. Also, I completed training through Herman and Wallace to effectively treat, assess and manage mastitis. Having a certification in lymphedema therapy has allowed a greater understanding of breast swelling and overall treatment. Being able to integrate my background of scar management, plastic reconstruction, oncology, and lymphedema made the gap in healthcare apparent when it came to breast rehabilitation services. I am on a mission to provide those missing services to you!

THERAPIST, BREASTHAB FOUNDER

Physical Therapist NYC, Rehabilitation Centers NYC

Sabrina Rana Vaishnavi, MPT CLT

I have been a practicing physical therapist since 2003, primarily working in an orthopedic setting. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to refine my skills as a hands-on, manually driven therapist. I believe that manual therapy is not just about technique—it’s about building trust, understanding each patient’s unique needs, and guiding them toward meaningful recovery.

In 2017, my perspective on rehabilitation shifted profoundly when I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer with a BRCA mutation. I underwent chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and other surgeries, facing firsthand the challenges of post-treatment recovery. During that time, I realized just how little support was available when I needed it most. The physical and emotional toll of treatment was immense, yet guidance on movement, healing, and regaining function was limited.

That experience ignited a passion in me to be part of the solution. I sought to understand the lymphatic system more deeply, recognizing its crucial role in recovery, and became certified in lymphedema therapy in 2023. With additional specialized training, I am dedicated to providing patients with the care and education I once longed for—helping them move forward with confidence, comfort, and a renewed connection to their bodies.

Now, alongside my partner Megan McCarthy, MS OTR/L, CLT, I am proud to be a part of BreastHab—a practice dedicated to filling the gap in rehabilitation services for those recovering from breast surgery, cancer treatments, and other breast rehabilitation related conditions. Together, we are committed to providing expert care, compassionate support, and a path toward healing that prioritizes both function and well-being.
